confident leader: part 1

heeyyyyy guys!!!!

this week, i started reading a book called confident leader by dan reiland, and the next few weeks, i want to focus my blog posts on the book. a quick little bio on dan is that he is a bestselling author, a leadership expert, a motivational speaker, and a leadership mentor to many. now, let's dive in!

i want to write about my biggest takeaways and what i learn along the way while understanding how we can give the Lord praise while leading people in relationship with Him.

first up is the foreward, and my word! i underlined darn near everything!

1. very few leaders are naturally confident and that lack of confidence is universal. there are many leaders that i look up to that are, or at least seem so confident in their position that i never thought twice about whether or not they experienced nerves.

2. leaders are passionate, they possess vision. when a leader is guiding you somewhere, something or someone is driving that action. when it is christ that we are passionate about, when following another individual we need to ask ourselves, "is this person leading me closer to christ?" and if we are leading another individual, we should ask ourselves, "am i portraying christ by my actions?"

3. leaders are hungry; they want to grow. there is a great desire for relationship with christ, and an intense desire for relationship with others. think of your best friend, the person you spend the most time with, and then ask yourself, "am i spending that much time with jesus?" i don't know about you, but that convicts me. it really has me thinking when i spend time with jesus and how i spend time with jesus. i know this is somewhere i am hungry! i want to grow in this and in relationship with him.

4. problems and pressure are part of the leadership landscape, it is not always going to be easy, you will experience trial and some might even have questions. are you willing to answer? are you prepared to answer? part of me is so relieved by this. it is hard sometimes, but it is refreshing to hear that others are experiencing similar feelings and even similar struggles. this expands community opportunities. think of the amazing conversations you could have! i love that.

5. confidence is impacted by external circumstances, but it is improved by internal processes. how are you loving yourself internally and externally? are you getting uncomfortable and stepping outside of your comfort zone? are you loving people well? are you showing people jesus by your actions and words? all of these and many more really impact internal and external circumstances and thoughts as well as has the ability to build up and impact personal confidence and other individuals' confidence.

now to the introduction: confidence makes leadership believable

1. leadership isn't a one time event, it is a fluid process with changing conditions. this reminds me of surrender. we need to continue to surrender to christ our struggles, it's an everyday thing that is constantly changing. just like leadership, it's an every day thing!

2. majority of leaders do not maintain a consistent quality of confidence. PHEW! also relieving. i see myself in some high highs but also in pretty low lows, but that is okay! and that is normal! we need to continue to turn to jesus and praise him in those highs, but when things get hard, know that christ is in your corner and wants us to go to him so that we trust him and strengthen that relationship with him.

this book is organized into three parts, deep foundational decisions, deliberate character development, and daily practical disciplines.

lastly, i want to address the three different kinds of confidence that are talked about.

1. bold confidence: from an individual's perspective, a bold and confident individual is very upfront about one's faith and has clear intentions.

2. quiet confidence: from an individual's perspective, a quiet and confident individual is strong and has a sure presence without drawing attention to one's self.

3. layered confidence: an individual with layered confidence is a strong and godly leader. they are a gifted communicator and creative visionary. an individual with layered confidence builds up confidence, layer by layer.

soooooo, which kind of confidence would you say you relate best to?

thank you for reading, thank you for loving one another. <3
